Tomorrow the 11th annual Virtual Worlds Best Practice in Education (VWBPE) 2018 starts with an enormous range of presenters, exhibitors and educators covering a wide range of virtual world educational topics and projects. I have attended some events in previous years but this will be the first year I attend. The conference runs from the 15th to the 17th march full details can be found on the VWBPE 2018 website.
The curious among you many be wondering what is the VWBPE so to satisfy your curiosity here is a description from the Eventbrite website:
Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education is a global grass-roots community event focusing on education in immersive virtual environments. This open conference is organized by the Second Life community to provide an opportunity to showcase the learning that takes place using virtual worlds [source].
The great thing about conferences like this is it’s a great opportunity to learn and hear about the broad applications of virtual educational strategies. It’s also amazing for networking and socialising with virtual world educators as well.
This year is different for me as I was asked to exhibit by AZ2 Smart Group [Evie Marie aka SingerGirl Mode] which is very exciting. I decided on two projects (1) educational: My Therapy Space Training and (2) My Therapy Space Web3D which is related to my professional practice as a therapist using the Web Worldz 3D web tools. My overall contribution to the exhibit is two slideshows and stands explaining my projects.
I asked Evie to describe the MySchool3D VWBPE exhibit and this is what she said:
MySchool3D Exhibit is designed to introduce you to virtual worlds in a browser and a working school environment.
In addition to sharing the advancements made, designer Evie Marie is issuing an invitation to educators to participate in a beta testing program where your lesson plans and curricula are converted into a 3D website environment.
Evie Marie will be talking at the Use Cases for Social Virtual Reality March 16 10:00 AM — 11:00 AM. You can also come along and meet Evie Marie at booth 54 on the conference regions.
It should be an interesting conference and I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge and feel inspiration for my own projects and potentially spawn new ones. Below you can find all the links for more information and if you have a second Life avatar jump inworld and join the conference.
The first three sessions of the day look interesting (1) Opening Ceremony of VWBPE 2018, (2) Identity, literacy, immersion and presence; joining together the building blocks of virtual world learning and (3) The Minecraft VRevolution: Collaborative Learning.
